Autumn in Alton

I've just been out to take our dog Poppy for a walk around the village and wanted to share a few photos that I took along the way.  As you will see from the beautiful colours Autumn has arrived in Alton!

It's really lovely at the moment.  Mild dry days with nights that cool but not too chilly.  Perfect weather for tidying up in the garden!

Bus Services and Taxis - Important Information

We are located in the village of Alton in Staffordshire.
Our Bed and Breakfast, The Malthouse is just one mile from Alton Towers.
First time visitors to the area are often surprised to find that Alton and Alton Towers is in the countryside!  It's lovely here, really beautiful!

Most visitors travel to the area by car and then use their vehicle to get about while they are here.
Some guests use public transport though.
Sadly, a few days ago First Buses who operate local buses drastically reduced many services including the 32/32A that runs between Alton village and Alton Towers.
We hope that services may be re-instated in the Spring but will have to wait and see.
If you are using public transport or taxis please plan/book all your journeys (including return journeys) well in advance.  Don't forget to check the cost of fares.

If you plan to travel by bus there is a bookable bus service that operates in the local area.
Bookings must be made in advance:
8am to 5pm Monday to Thursday
8am to 4pm Friday
To book telephone 01335 342951

Taxis are of course a good option but please be aware that short journeys can be expensive.
If you are coming to stay with us and need local taxi telephone numbers please contact us.
If you are using taxis or public transport please plan/book all your journeys (including return journeys) well in advance.  Don't forget to check the cost of fares.

Bon Voyage!

Red Sky at Night Alton's Delight!

We live in a lovely place, Alton really is a beautiful part of the world.  Sometimes we are guilty of taking our surroundings for granted.  On Tuesday this week just as the sun was setting we were treated to a spectacular view and reminded just how lucky we are.

We know the saying is "Red sky at night, shepherd's delight"
but for us it was "Red sky at night, Alton's delight"!
